Seattle Family Photographer | Betty’s Gold Hope Session

One of my favorite parts about being a photographer is giving the gift of photography to families of The Gold Hope Project (TGHP). If you haven’t already heard of it, TGHP is a nonprofit organization of photographers all over the world who donate their services to families with children who are fighting cancer. Not only do we provide photography sessions at no cost to these families, but the Project is also dedicated to community involvement and raising awareness.

My recent family has been through a lot in the last couple years. Their older daughter, Betty, was diagnosed in May 2012 with Retinoblastoma. This cancer was contained in her right eye and a small part of that eye’s optic nerve. In the end, it was best to have her eye enucleated to remove the cancer.

Since then, Betty has been cancer free and never slowed down. She is so full of life, energy, laughter, and curiosity. She absolutely loves her little sister Millie, her parents, and all things that have to do with being a princess.

It was my pleasure meeting with Betty and her family for a photography session and then presenting their images to them afterwards. I hope you will enjoy them as you scroll below and that they will cherish these images for a very long time.

If you know a child who has fought or is currently fighting cancer, contact The Gold Hope Project today.

Seattle Glamour and Beauty Photographer | Stephanie

I recently had the privilege of photographing one of Seattle’s emerging fashion and shopping bloggers, Stephanie Wilborn. While her blog is just getting started, Stephanie has had some really great posts detailing some of the best beauty products and treatments found in and around the Seattle area.

I’d love to point you to her blogsite now, but it’s in the process of being moved over to a brand new and gorgeous site! Stephanie hired me to take some beauty shots of her that she could add to it, and I just can’t wait to see all of these images and more on her blog when it’s finished! I hope to feature her new site on here when she reveals it very soon, so stay tuned!

Seattle Family Photographer | Happy Mother’s Day!

My brother and I brought our little families together last week to take a self portrait as a Mother’s Day gift for our mom and our spouses’ mothers. We met at Discovery Park in Seattle, and it was a lot of fun trying to take this shot. However at the same time, it wasn’t easy!  I couldn’t have done it without the self portrait tips I blogged about a couple weeks ago, especially my tripod and camera’s self timer which was set to 10 seconds.

Our fur-babies didn’t seem too inclined to have their photographs taken, but they behaved pretty well. All the rest of the images showed each of them looking in different directions, but I liked this one in particular because they were all looking in the same direction. I wonder what grabbed their attention. 😉

Well, I hope that you get a chance to enjoy today and make it very special for the women in your life. We wish you all the best and a very happy Mother’s Day from Allyson Photography!

Seattle Couples Photographer | Your Album

I absolutely adore the albums that I offer at Allyson Photography. When a client holds their album in their hands for the first time, not only are they taking home a beautiful book of memories to share for a lifetime, but they are also taking home most to all of the images from their session! I wanted to take an opportunity to blog about how beautiful these albums are and also share a sample album.

Each album is absolutely beautiful in its quality and build. They are bound in a certain way so they lay flat when you open one. I offer three sizes starting at 8×8″ and you have a choice between linen or leather for the cover. The cover is available in all sorts of colors, including some fun colors you might not think of such as red and green! I also have the ability to add an extra personal touch by embossing your name or whatever you would like written on the front cover.

Below is a sample album that I printed a few months ago for my studio. It is the largest album that I offer (12×12″) and I printed it with a brown linen cover because I thought it really complimented the images from this session.

Seattle Photographer | A Photography Tip

This week my little blogging group is sharing lessons we have learned recently. I think this will be a really interesting topic, so make sure to click on the link at the bottom of this post to see what the other members have learned in recent weeks.

The lesson that I would like to bring to the table is:

Always Make Time to Shoot for Yourself

Running a photography business can be so overwhelming. Many people view it as a glamorous and fun job, but to be honest, the time shooting is just a fraction of the actual work that is required. Marketing, accounting, website deign, editing, blogging…the list just goes on and on…

I was feeling pretty overwhelmed with it all back in March, especially because taxes were due soon. Fortunately, I made a new friend in this business, Danielle of Dutta Photography, and we decided to go up to Whidbey Island together for a photography adventure and to get some fresh air. Our goal was to photograph a lighthouse and to aimlessly drive around photographing whatever was interesting.

This little photography adventure revived my creativity and motivated me to get things finished with my taxes so I could focus on upcoming shoots. Soon after, I had one of my favorite boudoir shoots to date.

Now if you have a chance, follow my blogging group all over the globe. Start with my friend, Karen of Karen Cooley Photography, and see what she learned recently!

What a great idea! It’s so easy to get bogged down and dampen your creativity when you’re preoccupied with the not so creative business side of running a business. I’m glad it worked for you. Nice lighthouse shot and looking forward to seeing your post trip creative sessions that followed!

I’ve been so guilty of this lately, Ally!!! I took my boys out to shoot with them last week though, luckily!

SarahApril 17, 2013 - 1:32 pm

This is so true. It is so easy to get caught up in the work and not take time for yourself or family. What a great reminder. 🙂
